St Matthias Church wedding ceremony uai

Matthias Church Wedding Photography, Budapest

Certainly, the most significant moment of the day was the wedding ceremony at St. Matthias Church in the heart of Budapest’s Castle District. But let’s not jump ahead just yet—there’s so much more to this unforgettable celebration.

This is a wedding I am particularly proud of. Felicia and Fredrik, a couple from Stockholm, chose Budapest for their big day, drawn by its breathtaking views, stunning locations, and historic wedding venues. For Felicia, the city held an even deeper meaning—her family roots trace back here, making it the perfect place to say “I do.”

A Celebration Beyond the Wedding Day

With so many guests traveling from abroad, Felicia and Fredrik wanted to make the most of the occasion. The festivities began the night before with a pre-wedding gathering at a ruin bar in the heart of the city—a relaxed and lively way for everyone to meet, connect, and set the tone for the celebrations to come.

A Morning at the Writer’s Villa

The wedding day itself started on the Buda side in one of Budapest’s most charming locations—The Writer’s Villa. This elegant, historic home provided a picturesque setting where the couple, along with their closest friends and family, got ready. It was also where Felicia and Fredrik shared their emotional first look—a quiet, intimate moment before the grand events of the day unfolded.

The Ceremony at Matthias Church

And then, Matthias Church—a place steeped in more than a thousand years of history. Even King Matthias himself was married here, adding to the significance of this incredible venue.

Sitting atop Castle Hill, the church is not only one of the most sought-after wedding locations in Budapest but also offers one of the city’s most stunning panoramic views. Surrounded by a charming square and winding cobblestone streets, it truly feels like being on top of Budapest.

As guests gathered in front of the church, anticipation filled the air. This was a black-tie wedding, and the scene was nothing short of breathtaking—elegant suits, flowing gowns, and an atmosphere of timeless sophistication.

Inside the magnificent church, the ceremony was simply magical. The grandeur of the architecture, the soft candlelight, and the heartfelt vows created an experience that was both deeply moving and unforgettable.

A Toast with a View

Following the ceremony, the newlyweds and their guests took a short stroll to Fisherman’s Bastion for an intimate reception with a panoramic view. With a glass of champagne in hand, they celebrated the moment, soaking in the enchanting scenery that Budapest so effortlessly provides.

A Grand Celebration at Wenckheim Palace

The evening continued at the Wenckheim Palace, an opulent venue known to many as the Metropolitan Ervin Szabó Library. By day, it’s the main branch of Hungary’s largest library network, but for this night, it became the setting for an unforgettable wedding dinner.

As is tradition in Swedish weddings, the dinner was a long and heartfelt affair—lasting nearly five hours, filled with speeches, laughter, and tears. Each toast, every shared memory, brought an intimate warmth to what was a grand celebration, making even a large wedding party feel personal and deeply emotional.

A Wedding to Remember

Felicia and Fredrik’s Budapest wedding was a perfect blend of history, elegance, and heartfelt moments. From the cobbled streets of Buda to the grandeur of Wenckheim Palace, every part of their day was filled with love, laughter, and the magic of Budapest.

Scottish Highlands Elopement - Alex & Noelle

Scottish Highlands Elopement

Noelle and Alex, although they live in Singapore, they decided to have an elopement in the Scottish Highlands.

They both work in the creative field so it was really nice to read Noelle’s email about their plans for their wedding and that they would like me to be their wedding photographer in Scotland.

Noelle is from Australia and Alex is from England but Scotland is close to their heart as they both love nature and the beautiful scenery in the Scottish Highlands. And more importantly, it is where Alex proposed.

They were looking at different options on where and how to elope in Scotland, and they chose the excellent location and hosts from Crear Weddings on the west coast of Scotland – for their Scottish Highlands wedding!

Eloping in Scotland

The day of the wedding was cold and windy as it is more often than not in this area, but beautifully sunny too. Only a handful of guests, their very close family, followed them along on their adventure.

They started the day by getting ready at the Crear wedding house, and then they went down by the beach where the actual ceremony took place. It was a lovely and emotional ceremony.

A Scottish Piper was part of the event and this added an extra level to the otherwise already perfect mood.  After the ceremony, we took a little break to warm up and finally we went out for a memorable walk to take some wedding portraits in the Scottish wilderness.

If you are planning a Scotland elopement,  let’s connect, I would love to hear from you.

Wedding at Hacienda San Jose, Hotel Rural, Mijas

Wedding photographer Malaga and Marbella

Mijas, a beautiful hilly area in the south east part of Spain, south of Malaga. This is where Hacienda San Jose is, a truly fabulous villa wedding venue on top of one of the many  hills.

Siobhan contacted me about 2 years prior their wedding, and she said she would like me to photograph it. At that time she had no idea where her wedding actually going to be held. I got very excited when I got to know that they decided to have their international wedding near Malaga. I have never been to the south of Spain before so I was really looking forward to travelling there and meeting them. When I travel to photograph destination weddings I usually arrive one-two days before the actual wedding day in order to have some time to look around the area. And also this time I wanted to visit Malaga too.

Siobhan and Mark came all the way from Scotland and they brought only the closest friends and family with them making their day a really intimate wedding near Malaga.

When Siobhan and Mark started organising their wedding they looked up different venues in countries including Scotland where they are from but eventually they settled on this particular wedding venue in Mijas. They loved the fact that even in April they could have an outdoor wedding there and the Hacienda was big enough that they could accommodate all their guest at the venue too. This was and important aspect as all the guests stayed there for the whole wedding weekend making the wedding experience into a mini holiday too.

The venue has garden all round the villa, so they could organise different part of the wedding day to different part of the garden. The ceremony was held outdoors, in a grassy part of the garden next amongst palm trees. This was hands down the most emotional wedding ceremony I have ever witnessed.

Started with the Father of the Bride when he saw his daughter for the first time wearing her wedding dress. Then when they walked down the aisle to the ceremony, the groom couldn’t hold back his tears, and  why would he? My camera has a silent  operation feature, and it was a great reminder that technical advancements sometimes do make a difference. It was really nice that I could just snap away without being obtrusive with clicking sound.  Often I get emotional too as was the case this time and so it’s handy to have a camera to hide behind.

The weather was perfect on the day, not too hot but sunny. They set up one long table in the middle of the garden, and as there were only about 25 guests in total everyone was seated around this one table. Wedding decor was made by the sisters of the bride and the organisation of the wedding was perfected by Sunshine Weddings.

Have a look at this wedding too I photographed in a similar venue but in a different country.

Mdina Cathedral Wedding Photography, Malta

Mdina Cathedral Wedding Photography, Malta | Daphne & Ivan

The Metropolitan Cathedral of Saint Paul, commonly known as St. Paul’s Cathedral or the Mdina Cathedral, is undeniably one of the most stunning churches in Malta for a wedding.

For Daphne and Ivan, choosing Mdina for their wedding ceremony was an easy decision—Daphne’s sister lives in Malta, and the couple visits regularly, making the historic city a place close to their hearts.

Nestled in a picturesque square, surrounded by the medieval charm of Mdina, the cathedral provides an enchanting setting for a wedding. Guests can enjoy a leisurely stroll through the city’s narrow, winding streets, soaking in the romantic atmosphere before reaching the church—an experience that truly sets the tone for a joyous celebration.

If you’re considering a wedding ceremony at Mdina Cathedral, it’s worth allowing time for your guests to explore the area and take in its timeless beauty. During the summer months, temperatures can be high, but there are plenty of shady spots nearby to keep guests comfortable.

After the ceremony, Daphne and Ivan made a grand exit in a vintage Rolls-Royce, heading to their reception venue, where they continued their unforgettable celebration late into the evening.

Saluting Battery Wedding Photography, Valletta | Alyssa & Rob

The Saluting Battery is arguably the best wedding venue with a view in Malta—offering an unmatched panorama of the Grand Harbour and beyond.

I still remember my first trip to Malta years ago, visiting my then-girlfriend. I traveled all the way from Budapest by train, then crossed from Sicily by ferry. As I approached Valletta and the Grand Harbour at dusk, the scene before me was unforgettable—the Three Cities on the left, Valletta on the right, bathed in golden lights. It was one of the most breathtaking arrivals in a new country I’ve ever experienced.

Nestled within Upper Barrakka Gardens, a beautiful public park overlooking the harbour, sits the Saluting Battery—the very spot where Alyssa and Rob exchanged their vows in an intimate wedding ceremony. With such an incredible view, it’s easy to see why couples choose this iconic location for their big day.

After the ceremony, the three of us wandered through Valletta, a city built in the 16th century, unique for its grid-like street plan. Unlike other cities in Malta, you can stand at one end and see straight to the other—a testament to its precise design. Walking through its narrow limestone streets, surrounded by centuries of history, always feels magical.

We wrapped up the session at the tip of the peninsula, capturing one last set of portraits against the timeless backdrop of Valletta. Truly, this city is a picture-perfect place for weddings.

Villa Bologna Wedding Photography, Malta

Villa Bologna in Attard is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful wedding venues in Malta. I’ve had the privilege of photographing several weddings here, and each time, it’s an absolute joy to return.

Whether you’re planning a grand celebration or an intimate gathering, Villa Bologna accommodates both perfectly, effortlessly adapting to the scale of your wedding. This 18th-century baroque country villa offers a stunningly romantic backdrop for both ceremonies and receptions, making it a dream location for couples.

The villa’s Italian baroque gardens are breathtaking, featuring fountains, ponds, Nymphaea, grand pillars, and charming cobbled pathways. The gardens are lush with fruit trees and exotic plants, offering natural shade on warm summer days. The cobbled area beside the main villa is an ideal setting for a beautiful outdoor reception—and since this is Malta, there’s little need to worry about the weather!

Michelle & Stefan’s Wedding at Villa Bologna

For Michelle and Stefan, getting married at Villa Bologna was a dream come true. Michelle’s parents had moved to Malta from England, and their family home became the perfect venue for a pre-wedding get-together, welcoming all their guests who had traveled from abroad.

Like many of the weddings I’ve photographed, this celebration had a wonderful international vibe. Michelle is English, Stefan is German, and both live in Boston—meaning their guests had traveled from all over the world to be part of their special day. This made the wedding feel even more meaningful, turning it into a true celebration of love, family, and friendship.

Fisherman's Bastion Wedding Photography - Saying "I Do" Above Budapest

Fisherman’s Bastion Wedding Photography

A wedding at Fisherman’s Bastion is nothing short of a fairytale—a dream come true for anyone who has ever visited Budapest. Perched atop Castle Hill on the Buda side, this architectural masterpiece is not only one of the city’s most popular landmarks but also one of its most magical wedding venues.

For Pei and Zifeng, who live in Budapest, choosing Fisherman’s Bastion as their wedding venue was an easy decision. They wanted their guests to experience the city’s breathtaking beauty from one of its most iconic locations.

A Wedding with a View

The day began at the Hilton Hotel, where bridal preparations took place. From the hotel room window, they could see the top of Fisherman’s Bastion, where the wedding team was already at work, setting up the terrace for the ceremony.

And what a setting it was. Standing on the terrace, overlooking the Danube, the panoramic views stretched across Budapest’s most famous landmarks. It was an unforgettable backdrop for their vows, framed by the historic architecture and the shimmering river below.

As part of their Chinese wedding traditions, Pei and Zifeng included a Tea Ceremony, honoring their heritage while taking in the breathtaking scenery.

A Magical Moment in the Sky

They say rain on a wedding day brings luck, and on this day, it delivered something even more extraordinary. After a brief storm, the skies cleared, unveiling a spectacular double rainbow over the Danube, illuminated by the setting sun. It was a breathtaking sight—a moment of pure magic to end a perfect day.
